Major news for North Carolina Tar Heels fans! The team has just secured a significant addition to its special teams: LSU transfer kicker, Aeron Burrell. This move is particularly noteworthy, given the departure of UNC's previous kickoff specialist, Rece Verhoff, who has exhausted his eligibility. Burrell's arrival is expected to bring a new level of expertise to the team.
For the past two seasons, Burrell has been a consistent presence as a kickoff specialist for the LSU Tigers, participating in all 25 games. In 2024, his performance was outstanding, with an impressive 89.19% touchback percentage. This led the SEC and ranked him 3rd nationally. To put it in perspective, he managed to boot 45 out of 66 kickoffs for touchbacks this past fall.
Burrell, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound native of Bossier City, La., still has two years of eligibility remaining, giving UNC a solid foundation in the kicking game for the coming seasons.
