UAE's Potential Military Response to Iranian Attacks: A Regional War Escalates (2026)

The escalating conflict in the Middle East has pushed the United Arab Emirates to the brink of considering unprecedented military action against Iran. This drastic contemplation stems from a barrage of Iranian missile and drone attacks that have targeted the UAE, even more so than Israel, making it the most attacked nation since the war's inception.

But here's where it gets controversial: The UAE, despite not being directly involved in the initial war, has reportedly endured 800 projectiles. This has led to a serious re-evaluation of their defensive strategy. As one source familiar with Emirati policy discussions stated, "The UAE is considering taking active defensive measures against Iran." They further added, "The view in the UAE is that no country in the world would fail to evaluate its defensive posture under such circumstances."

This situation has rapidly transformed the conflict into a sweeping regional crisis. Initially, Iran's attacks on the first day of the war impacted the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain. By the second day, the strikes had expanded to include Oman and Saudi Arabia. The repercussions have been significant, with Qatar forced to suspend most of its natural gas production. Furthermore, an Iranian drone struck the U.S. embassy in Riyadh, and debris from intercepted missiles caused fires at Jebel Ali Port, while another drone hit a luxury hotel on Dubai's Palm Jumeirah.

And this is the part most people miss: Israeli officials are now speculating that Saudi Arabia might also consider retaliatory military action against Iran. Anwar Gargash, a foreign policy advisor to the UAE president, voiced his strong disapproval on X, stating that Iran's attacks against Gulf states "was a miscalculation and has isolated Iran at a critical juncture." He elaborated, "Your war is not with your neighbors, and this escalation only reinforces the narrative that Iran is the primary source of danger in the region and that its missile program is a constant source of instability."

Digging deeper into the numbers, the Emirati defense ministry revealed that Iran had launched 186 ballistic missiles at the UAE, with 172 being intercepted, 13 falling into the sea, and 1 landing on Emirati territory. Additionally, 812 drones were detected, 755 of which were intercepted, and 57 made impact within the country, resulting in the deaths of three foreign nationals and injuries to around 70 others. The ministry emphatically stated, "The UAE reserves its full right to respond to this escalation and to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, citizens and residents."

This conflict, initially sparked by a U.S.-Israel bombing campaign, has now drawn in countries that never intended to be part of it. Since the campaign began, Iran has targeted U.S. bases and other locations across the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, including its Kurdish region. With President Trump indicating that Operation Epic Fury is designed to last four to five weeks, there is significant potential for further expansion of this volatile situation.

What are your thoughts on the UAE potentially striking Iran? Do you believe this is a necessary defensive measure, or a dangerous escalation that could engulf the entire region in war? Share your perspective in the comments below.
