Gordon, a Norfolk native, found himself in a harrowing situation during an annual golf event with former England and Scotland footballers. "It was a terrifying experience," Gordon recounted. "We were having a great time, and then suddenly, the sky lit up with explosions. The fumes and the fire were visible, and it was a real shock." Gordon's concern extended to his son, Remy, who was with him, and the family's football academies, which have been paused due to government advice to stay indoors.
Dubai's main airport has also been damaged, grounding thousands of flights and trapping many, including Gordon's Premier League colleagues, Gareth Barry, Seth Johnson, and Charles Miller, in the city. Despite the chaos, Gordon remains steadfast, stating, "We'll be strong - this is home." He has properties in the marina and on the outskirts, near the Trump golf course, and his son is with him, providing a sense of reassurance.
The Chenery family, who were on a seven-day Middle Eastern cruise, encountered their own set of challenges. Alfie Chenery, 22, and his brother Max, 26, along with their parents, Paul and Tanya, found themselves stranded in Dubai after their cruise was canceled. The family witnessed the chaos firsthand, with Alfie describing the sight of three or four missiles flying over the ship.
Despite the uncertainty, the family felt safe and supported by the cruise line's updates. Alfie expressed gratitude for the understanding shown by their employers and the ease of replenishing supplies in Dubai. The cruise line is attempting to arrange repatriation flights, but the process is fraught with uncertainty due to airspace restrictions.
