The M11 was partially blocked with heavy traffic following a crash.

A crash sparked traffic delays on the M11 this afternoon. There was also congestion on the A1 (M) and motorists were warned of delays of up to 40 minutes.

The crash on the M11 took place heading northbound near J8 A120 / Stansted (Bishops Stortford). There were tailbacks of around three miles.

Meanwhile, drivers on the A1 (M) were warned of delays between J61 and J62. There were also residual delays heading northbound between J63 and J62.

A1 (M) blocked by crash

According to a new update from National Highways, the A1 (M) is blocked by a crash heading southbound. There are delays at junction 17.

Drivers are being warned of delays of up to 50 minutes. We will keep you updated in this blog.

Second M11 crash in as many days

There was also a crash on the M11 yesterday morning. It sparked hour-long delays on the southbound side near Saffron Walden.

National Highways said at the time: "Lane 2 (of 2) is closed on the M11 southbound between J9 and J8 (Stansted Airport) due to a collision.

"Traffic officers and recovery are in attendance. There are long delays of at least 60 minutes above usual journey times on the approach."

M11 traffic clears after crash

Traffic has now cleared on the northbound side of the M11. The crash took place near J8 A120 / Stansted (Bishops Stortford) and there were tailbacks of three miles.

Although the M11 has since cleared, there are further delays on the A1 (M).

Further delays on A1 (M)

There are also severe traffic congestion on the A1 (M), according to National Highways. Drivers should expect delays of up to 40 minutes on the northbound side between J61 and J62.

There are also delays of 10 minutes between J63 and J62. National Highways expects traffic to return to normal by 1.45pm.
