C40 Cities: Inclusive Climate Action Senior Manager (Remote, Africa) - Apply Now! (2026)

Attention all climate action enthusiasts! We have an exciting opportunity to make a real impact on the African continent. C40 Cities, a global network of mayors, is seeking a Senior Manager for their Inclusive Climate Action (ICA) initiative, and this role is perfect for those passionate about equity and climate justice.

C40 Cities is a powerful force, bringing together nearly 100 mayors to tackle the climate crisis head-on. With a focus on science and people, they aim to limit global heating to 1.5°C and create healthier, more equitable cities. And here's where it gets controversial: they believe that climate action is most effective when it considers the lived experiences of those most affected by climate change.

The ICA Programme is all about ensuring climate justice and social justice go hand in hand. It supports cities in designing climate policies that address deep-rooted inequalities while also promoting adaptation and resilience. This role is based in Kenya and offers a unique chance to shape climate adaptation efforts across African cities with an inclusive, community-driven approach.

As the Senior Manager, you'll be the go-to person for equity and inclusion within C40's Resilient Urban Futures Programme in the region. Your technical expertise and strategic leadership will ensure that climate adaptation efforts are truly inclusive and aligned with just transition principles.

Key responsibilities include providing technical guidance to African cities on implementing their Climate Action Plans, ensuring equity and inclusivity are at the heart of these plans, and designing tailored projects to advance high-impact adaptation interventions. You'll also contribute to capacity-building efforts and act as a policy expert on critical ICA themes, such as just transition, gender equity, and disability inclusion.

But here's the part most people miss: it's not just about technical expertise. You'll also need to be a master of coordination and stakeholder engagement. You'll work closely with city officials, consultants, and partners to ensure everyone is on the same page. And you'll build strategic partnerships with a range of stakeholders, from city governments to civil society organizations and private sector actors, to advance inclusive climate adaptation agendas.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience working with municipal governments in Africa on climate action initiatives, a deep understanding of African climate contexts and debates on equity, and expertise in translating technical climate data into actionable policies and plans. Excellent project management and communication skills are a must, as is the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and cultures.

This fixed-term contract, ending in 2029, offers a competitive salary and the chance to make a real difference. So, if you're passionate about climate action and ready to take on a leadership role, apply now! The deadline is fast approaching, and C40 encourages early applications.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to be a part of a global movement for climate justice. Apply today and be the change you want to see in the world!
