"As someone who has cheered for the Buffalo Bills for over four decades, I am heartbroken and perplexed by the recent firing of Sean McDermott," Maisonet expressed in her petition. "He has not only been the strategic genius behind our team's notable achievements but also an inspiring figure dedicated to the Buffalo community."
Before McDermott took the helm in 2017, the Bills endured a frustrating 17-year playoff drought. His arrival marked a turning point, as he led the team to its first postseason appearance in his inaugural year. While the Bills missed the playoffs the following season, they rebounded to secure seven consecutive playoff berths, including five straight AFC East titles from 2020 to 2024, under McDermott’s leadership.
Critics often point to McDermott's inability to advance past the AFC playoffs and into the Super Bowl as a significant flaw. The Bills reached the AFC Championship Game twice but were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2020 and 2024 seasons.
