Forget everything you thought you knew about 250 SuperMotocross – Anaheim 1 just delivered a seismic shock! Haiden Deegan and Max Anstie absolutely dominated their heats, leaving fans buzzing and setting the stage for an epic Main Event. But here's where it gets controversial... Did their early success guarantee a Main Event victory, or were there other riders lurking, ready to steal the show? Let's break down the heat races and see what unfolded at Angel Stadium.
Heat 1: Deegan's Decisive Domination
Haiden Deegan came out swinging, seizing the lead right out of the gate in Turn 1. By the end of the first lap, he'd already built a commanding 1.1-second advantage over Maximus Vohland. While Deegan checked out, the battle for second place ignited between Vohland and Cameron McAdoo, with Carson Mumford quickly joining the fray.
Deegan's performance was nothing short of dominant. With a minute left on the clock, his lead had ballooned to a massive seven seconds. "It’s the last 250 season and this is the biggest crowd I’ve seen at A1," Deegan exclaimed after his win. "I’m stoked and just ready to put on a show for the crowd.” He wasn't kidding! By the time he crossed the finish line, Deegan had stretched his lead to a whopping 8.5 seconds over McAdoo. Vohland held on for third, followed by Mumford and Ryder DiFrancesco rounding out the top five. Robbie Wageman, Lux Turner, Anthony Bourdon, and Brandon Ray also secured their spots in the Main Event with solid finishes.
Heat 2: Anstie's Calculated Victory
Max Anstie grabbed the early lead in Heat 2, leading the pack on Lap 1. Levi Kitchen, unfortunately, suffered a poor start, putting him at a disadvantage if he hoped to match Deegan’s performance from Heat 1. Hunter Yoder initially gave chase, but Kitchen quickly began his charge, clawing his way into a podium position by the end of the first lap.
Michael Mosiman's hopes took a hit when he crashed on Lap 3, dropping him down the order and jeopardizing his chances of directly advancing to the Main. He plummeted to 17th. Kitchen, however, continued his recovery, moving into second place on Lap 4. Seemingly content with securing a good gate pick for the Main, Kitchen appeared to cruise to the finish. Chance Hymas followed Kitchen into third, pushing Yoder back to fourth as the clock ticked down.
"That was nice,” Anstie said from the top of the box, clearly pleased with his performance. “Obviously it was a heat race, but it’s nice to start off like that.” Anstie maintained his lead to the finish, securing a 3.5-second win over Kitchen. Hymas held onto third, while Yoder and Dilan Schwartz completed the top five. Avery Long, Joshua Varize, Justin Rodbell, and Parker Ross also earned their spots in the Main Event.
Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ): Mosiman's Redemption
After his earlier crash, Michael Mosiman bounced back in a big way, winning the LCQ by a dominant eight seconds over Crocket Myers. Denmark’s Matti Jorgensen finished third, and Lorenzo Camporese also secured a transfer spot to the Main Event. Talk about a comeback! And this is the part most people miss... The LCQ is a pressure cooker, and Mosiman proved he could handle the heat, literally and figuratively. But did this LCQ win provide enough momentum for a strong Main Event finish? That's what we're all wondering.
So, there you have it: Deegan and Anstie set the pace early, but the drama was just beginning. Who do you think will ultimately take the crown in the 250 Main Event? Did Deegan peak too early, or does he have the raw speed to dominate again? And what about Kitchen – can he overcome his poor start to challenge for the win?
