Paul Hobbs is a legend in the wine community. He is the owner of the eponymous winery in California, CrossBarn Winery in New York, Viña Cobos in Argentina and an impressive portfolio of wines imported from around the world.
Paul was one of the earliest to recognize the potential of Argentina and began consulting here decades ago. His familiarity with the regions and their wines afforded him the opportunity to partner with Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud to create Viña Cobos.
Concentrating on wines that represent terroir in the finest sense, the wines are vineyard and appellation specific. Still a rarity in Argentina.
At the entry level the Felino wines are made to be enjoyed young and the grapes of various regions are blended to create the best possible quality products that emphasize varietal characteristics.
Bramare at the next step up takes advantage of the flavor profiles and differences between the Luján de Cuyo vineyards and those of the Uco Valley.
Bottled as distinct appellations, each region is accorded their own labels to distinguish between two equally wonderful, but distinct terroirs.
The Bramare Vineyard line recognizes two very special vineyards, the Marchiori for Malbec, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon and the Rebon Vineyard for Malbec.
Juan Francisco Cobos is credited for introducing the Poplar tree to Mendoza to serve as a wind break. These majestic trees still line many of the roads of the region, and the Marchiori Vineyard in Luján de Cuyo is located on Cobos street. The winery name pays tribute to the man and the trees.
We also have a personal connection since our home town is named after a variety of the Poplar - Aspen.
